Summer holidays

We run a range of residential and non residential adventure courses throughout school holiday periods.  From sailing and kayaking lessons to 5 day residential multi activity adventure courses. we have courses to suit everyone’s taste.

Multi Activity Adventure Weeks and Adventure Days

Our youth adventure weeks run Monday to Friday throughout the summer and Easter holidays. They feature a vast range of activities with most weeks having a minimum of 15 different activities. They can be taken as a five day residential adventure week, with supervision 24hours a day or if you prefer just coming for one day or don’t want to stay overnight, then individual adventure days may be more appropriate.  A sample programme is shown below which most weeks will run to-

Youth Sea Kayaking Adventure Week- (Minimum 13years)

This young persons week is firmly based upon themes of adventure and exploration. We will explore the islands coastline by sea kayak, camping or biviing on various beaches along the route. The expedition will be based upon sea kayaking however will also explore the coastline via coasteering and climbing. All specialist equipment will be supplied by the venture centre including; kayaks, and all safety equipment. No experience is required,  a training session may be available to learn safety skills in preparation.

Monday 8th August- Friday 12th August 2011         £250 per person

RYA Level 1 / 2 Powerboat Course-  (Minimum 11years)

This two day course allows children to gain a qualification during the school holidays while partaking in the highly exciting sport of power boating. Technical slow and high speed control skills will be covered  as well as navigation and environmental awareness. The course aims to equip the person with the skills necessary to safely control a powerboat. No experience is required to attend the course.

Tuesday 9th August - Wednesday 10th August 2011  £150 per person  (non residential)

(Courses can also be arranged to run at different dates, a minimum of 2 people are needed to run a course, and maximum is 6 people.)

Summer sailing  (youth)-

Beginners (RYA Stage 1) - This week is for people who have never sailed before or who have attended one of our introductory sessions on the Mooragh Park Lake. The sessions run for one and a half hours a day and aim to introduce you will the basic skills to control your own boat, and runs in coordination with the RYA Stage 1 syllabus. Skills that are covered include tacking, rigging a boat, safe launch and recovery, sailing a triangular course and different points of sail. This course will be based on the Mooragh Park Lake and mostly take place in single handed dinghies’.

Monday 25th July – Friday 29th July 2011 9.30am- 11.00am daily £75per person for 5 sessions

 

Improvers (RYA Stage 2) - This week is perfect if you already hold the stage one certificate or feel you already have the necessary skills to skip the level one. This week runs to the RYA level two syllabus and covers more advanced skills than the level one certificate including; upwind sailing, downwind sailing and gybing. The course will take place mostly in single handed dinghys but some tuition may take place in our asymmetric training dinghy.

Monday 1st August- Friday 5th August   9.30am- 11.00am daily   £75per person for 5 sessions

Youth Paddlesport Club

These sessions are run throughout most of the year on Friday evenings. They are specially aimed towards children over 9 years, and run to the UKCC paddle power scheme. They offer the participants tuition in a variety of paddle sport craft including kayaks, Canadian canoes, sit on tops and cover basic safety skills, including a strong emphasis of fun over each session. 

Friday evenings throughout summer 6.30 p.m.- 7.30 p.m.     

 £10 per session per child

Youth Summer Kayaking Courses

These clinics feature five sessions of 1 ½ hours that run over the course of a week. They are aimed at two different levels with beginner aimed at people who have little or no experience.  The intermediate course is for people who have some experience in kayaking and are competent at basic strokes.

Beginners-      Monday 25th July- Friday 29th July   9.30am-11am daily                     £50 per person for 5 sessions

Intermediate- Monday 1st August- Friday 5th August   9.30am-11am daily           £50per person for 5 sessions
